HermitFest started in 20?? as a social experiment run by the Original Hermit, Nickeless Nickelfull, on the ability for small groups to communicate without words.  The form and function of HermitFest changes a bit every event, but the one constant is that from sunrise Saturday to sunrise on Sunday of HermitFest, there is no speaking.  Those who break the cone of silence are sent to "talky camp."

 

Even without words, there is much camaraderie during these events, and attendees have described them as, "the most relaxing and enjoyable weekend they've had in a long time."
